Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella ordered the immediate militarisation of Cúcuta, the largest city on the country's border with Venezuela, on Thursday (29/10).[1]
The city is in the northeast and according to the authorities, in recent days there was the murder of a mayoral candidate and an explosives attack that wounded four police officers.[2]
The measure is "temporary", until "we restore order", the president said.[2]
Strong police and army forces are being deployed in the city, the second where Espriella has imposed such a measure since he took power on 7 August.[3]
