On Wednesday 28 October, 86 years had passed since the Greek government refused to accept the Italian ultimatum of 1940, which led to the Greco-Italian War.[1]
Italian Ambassador Emanuele Gratsi arrived shortly before three in the morning at the residence of Ioannis Metaxas in Kifisia with an ultimatum, by which Italy demanded that its troops be allowed to enter Greek territory.[2]
At 5:30 in the morning Italian forces attacked Greek positions on the Greek-Albanian border.[2]
The main military parade is taking place in Thessaloniki, while in Nicosia a thanksgiving service is held in the presence of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.[3]
