A tanker off Saudi Arabia was hit by two unidentified projectiles, UKMTO says

What the sources report

A tanker sailing in the Gulf, 72 nautical miles (133 kilometres) east of the Saudi Arabian coast, was hit on its port side by two "projectiles of unknown type".[1]

This was reported in the early morning hours by the British agency UKMTO, which falls under the Ministry of Defence.[1]

According to UKMTO, citing a "report" it received, no environmental impact has been reported "at this time" and the whereabouts of all crew members are "known".[1]

Key ports and hydrocarbon loading facilities are located in the Gulf, not far from the Strait of Hormuz.[1]

Iran has effectively closed the strait de facto with threats and attacks against commercial ships, and in retaliation the US is imposing a blockade on Iranian ports in the Gulf.[1]

Where they differ

ERT News reports that the incident occurred at 23:47 GMT on Sunday, about 72 nautical miles east of the city of Ras al-Hafji, while Zougla writes that the ship was hit in the early morning hours of Monday, 2 November.[2][3]
