On 5 December 1959 a shipwreck occurred on Lake Plastiras, in Karditsa, which cost 20 people their lives.[1]
Most of them were workers on the lake's construction projects and were returning home for the Feast of Saint Nicholas.[1]
They boarded the boat in the area of "Tsardaki" bound for the opposite shore, where the Neochori Botanical Garden is today.[1]
No one survived.[1]
Giorgos Karantonis, teacher and president of the Neochori Youth Cultural Association and grandson of one of the drowned, presented the chronicle of the tragedy to ANA-MPA after four years of research.[2]
