The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) announced on Friday that its office in Madrid has opened an investigation into possible fraud in the use of European funds for the Madrid - Seville high-speed railway line.[1]
The investigation was launched ex officio, after the collision of two trains on 28 October near Urda, in the province of Toledo.[2]
According to the announcement, investigative actions are being carried out at the premises of Adif, the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF) and the Court of Audit.[3]
The operation involves the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard.[3]
This is the second investigation this year into the line; the first began in March, after the January accident that killed 46 people.[4]
